It's Almost That Time of Year

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, many of us are focused on enjoying a great meal with limited friends and family. But remember, there is more to the holiday than just that. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our blessings and show gratitude. As we get ready to adorn our tables with food, remember that there are over 35 million Americans suffering from food insecurity and the pandemic has only made these times more difficult for many. According to the USDA, the pandemic has caused nearly 1 in 4 households to experience food insecurity. So, what better way to embrace the spirit of giving this year than by giving back to your community?

You can help by volunteering at or donating to your local food bank or shelter. Check with your local community to see how you can help support your community and stay safe as well. Moreover, take measures in your own home to reduce food waste. Planning ahead, using what you have, and repurposing “waste” and leftovers into creative new recipes are some ways to reduce food waste from the holidays. If you still end up with a surplus of food, donate the excess to food charities which use donated food to serve meals for those in need.

Also, spread awareness among your family and friends. With the holiday season underway, giving gifts that give back is a great way to spread awareness and support important causes like fighting hunger. Got a foodie friend or family member? Aprons donating 100 meals per purchase to those in need make an excellent foodie gift😉

Let’s give thanks by giving back to those in need and embrace the holiday spirit together. Happy Thanksgiving!
